I figure I might as well stay on this PopandPolitics bent today…
New York
So, my new editor of PopandPolitics.com, Tricia Romano, has her own blog entitled nobodywalksinla.com, which I suppose highlights why she luvs LA. As a L.A. resident currently in New York city, I found her posting on NY completely hilarious. And I recently wrote my own ode to Los Angeles. And I honestly find NYC a bit overrated. So, I had to share.

Consider: New Yorkers, who pay out the nose for rent and other costs of living, put up with an unbelievable amount of people, dirt, grime, and stress, are heavily invested in believing that they live in the “Greatest City in the World.” Because if it’s not the center of the universe, then why are they putting up with all this bullshit? I think they hate L.A. so voraciously because the public image of L.A. is an easy target, (blonde, fake, tan, insipid, shallow, ect), and also because they know in their bones, they’d actually like it better if they just tried to live somewhere outside of Hollywood or Bev Hills. It’s almost a case, of someone doth protest too much.

Many of you closest to me know that I am a big fan of PopandPolitics.com. It is a web site all about pop, culture and politics for Gen X and Y. Ever since it was created by Farai Chideya, I was hooked and would consistently check for new posts and updates. So, it was to my big surprise when PopandPolitics.com (P+P) was housed at USC-Annenberg in the past couple of years. And guess who attends USC. Yes, little old me. I am getting my master’s in broadcast journalism there. And now, after a long wait, I am finally able to dedicate writing time (15 hours a week) to my beloved site. And I do mean be-loved.
It is my hope that I will contribute as much to P+P that I possible can. I am looking to grow, develop and strenghten my writing abilities while learning a little more about myself and the politics that I love. We’ll see how it goes.
My first formal assignment will be at the 2008 Democratic National Convention on August 25 in Denver (my birthplace). I’m excited, nervous, anxious but overjoyed by the tremendous opportunity to be on the ground floor of the next stage of the presidential elections. Hey, this is why I became a journalist.
So, please wish me luck as I continue to share my voice and abilities with the world on PopandPolitics.com.

Happy Belated Birthday Barack Obama!!
The Democratic Presidential Candidate celebrated his 47th birthday yesterday (August 4th) at a Boston fundraiser. According to a Los Angeles times piece, here is what Obama wanted for his birthday.
“I asked Barack what he wanted for his birthday, and he said three things: Indiana, Colorado and Virginia,” said (John) Kerry (D-Mass), the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee. “That’s it.”
Obama also opened some presents.
The first was a Red Sox shirt.
“As a White Sox fan, this hurts a little bit,” he said.
The next was . . . a White Sox shirt.
“Here we go. That’s what I’m talking about!” Obama said.
Way to keep it real. Happy b-day Obama!

My favorite airlines, JetBlue, announced today some innovative ways to offset increasing air fuel charges. The company has decided to charge customers $7 for a pillow and blanket on flights extending more than two hours.
According to JetBlue, the pillow and blanket are eco-friendly, and made of a new fabric developed by CleanBrandsLLC. This special material is said to block “pesky critters like dust mites, mold spores, pollen and pet dander.”
This kit will help offset the carriers soaring fuel prices. In addition to selling pillows and blankies, JetBlue has a $15 fee for the second checked bag, a ticket change fee, and a charge for additional leg room.
I remember when JetBlue was the best bang for the buck. Nowadays, it is getting harder and harder to find a good flight deal.
I recommend JetBlue and Frontier airlines for comfort, convenience and modern technology like in-seat television (which makes coast-to-coast flying go by a lot quicker). And I’ve also heard really good thing about Virgin America airlines. If you are looking tofind the best rate, check out Kayak.com. I’ve used it recently to locate some great deals between Los Angeles and New York.

Just in case you hadn’t seen this ridiculous McCain ad that attacks Obama by calling him a celebrity and questions his ability to lead. It features Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, which are odd celebrity choices to pair with Obama. (By the way, Hilton’s parents were pissed about her association with this ad. McCain: you should have called.) Strangely, McCain didn’t use any of People’s magazine top celebrities like Will Smith, Oprah Winfrey or Angelina Jolie. I wonder why? I will let you draw your own conclusions. Please post your comments.
